Death of a Peacock

When Ben Silverman came to NBC as its president of entertainment, I was really excited. After all, he greenlit Ugly Betty, The Office, and 30 Rock, 3 of the nominated Best Comedies and the last two winners. Then he greenlit American Gladiators. Then Night Rider. Then My Dad's Better than Your Dad.

He keeps talking about staying ahead of the business TV model. He is always talking about adapting to the way TV is distributed. Basically, he uses a lot of business rhetoric to cover up for his inefficiencies as the head of a TV network. In an effort to drastically change the industry, according to him, NBC will hold its "spotlight event" (Silverman's words) next week. This is essentially NBC's upfront, which is a month and a half sooner than the usual mid-May upfronts presentations. Silverman keeps touting that he's staying ahead of the TV industry, and next week will prove if he's able to do it. My guess is, no joke, that NBC will announce another Celebrity Apprentice. So no.

NBC's Next...

This is quite said considering that NBC was still THE quality network just a few years back.

Sigh,
